- Main aim of cohort
Primary objective: to identify which environmental, pregnancy-related and anthropometric characteristics assessed at birth and anthropometric and lifestyle behaviours-related characteristics assessed at subsequent well-care visits are possible determinants of being overweight and obese. Secondary objectives: - to explore the association between the abovementioned characteristics; and BMI distribution (BMI percentiles) at the ages of five, eight, and eleven - to assess birth-related determinants of being overweight or obese later in life; - to estimate the potential mediating effect of lifestyle behaviours at age of three on the association between birth-related factors and being overweight or obese at age five; - to analyze BMI trajectories at birth and subsequent well-care visits and their association with maternal and child characteristics

Comments and ideas
The BMInforma cohort enrolls children during the 3-year well-care checkup at the family pediatrician’s clinic. Birth data and socio-economic characteristics of the family have been obtained by a retrospective linkage with the certificates of childbirth assistance (CedAP). Children were followed prospectively and visited at 5 , 8-9, and 11-12 years of age. We have now concluded the last follow-up at 12 years. Anthropometric data, information on eating habits and physical activity were collected at each visit. The cohort is a rich source of information for us to study children's growth trajectories and the influence of their eating and physical activity behaviors on BMI.
