- Main aim of cohort
To identify determinants of exposure. To investigate whether pollutants or mixtures of pollutants in the general population are associated with molecular and/or clinical effects. To explore time trends for pollutants measured in FLEHS I, II & III. To establish reference values for the general Flemish population for a large set of biomarkers of exposure. Simultaneously, relevant health effects are measured in cord blood/hair or assessed through questionnaires.

Inclusion criteria mothers: - They should live in Flanders for at least 10 years - They should provide consent: this means the participants are willing to provide a sample of cord blood, blood and hair and are willing to fill in an extended questionnaire the week after they give birth and fill in a questionanire about the neurological development of their child for 2 years. They should be able to fill in the Dutch questionnaire (with questions about pregancy/health/social parameters/living environment/lifestyle/smoking/ alcohol/ nutrition and perception about environment and health).
