- Main aim of cohort
Although this is a multi-purpose cohort on child health and development, its two main specific aims are: •To study determinants of differences in foetal and early life growth and body composition. •To relate these changes to obesity and other health outcomes later in life.

Main group - at birth: Gestational age >23 weeks; birth at one of the 5 level III public maternities from Porto Metropolitan Area; maternal residence at one of the six municipalities from this region. Sub-group - during pregnancy: 1st antenatal visit up to the 13th gestational week in two (of the five) maternity units.
