    Enrollment criteria, please specify
    Healthy term infants (full-term newborn) and his/her mothers were recruited in Postnatal Department of Moscow No.1 Maternity Hospital during 13 visits. All women delivered within the preceding 48 hours were interviewed. Mothers provided us with information on relatives of a newborn in regards to clinical manifestations of food allergies, atopic dermatitis, eczema, urticaria, angioedema, allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, asthma and episodes of drug allergy.

    Premature infant (<37 weeks) Mother taking immunosuppressive agents during lactation Major birth defects Admission to NICU Intrauterine growth restriction (weight below 2nd centile) Significant maternal or infant illness, such that participation will place an unreasonable burden on the mother or child eg maternal postnatal depression

It is possible to compare transitions in eczema, asthma and allergic rhinitis from year to year. To see that disease status changes in the same children of cohort. Atopic eczema prevalence may be compared in cohorts evaluated with standardized questionnaires. The prevalence of atopic eczema in Russia will be tested with the UK Working Party’s Diagnostic Criteria for Atopic Dermatitis. Results at the age of 1,2,3,4,5 year are available. Skin prick test results with 9 allergens are available in 130 children at the age of 1 year and at the age of 3 years/. Skin prick test results with 9 allergens are available in 175 mothers 1 year after delivery. Knowledge of allergic conditions in the relatives of newborn children is useful for the primary prevention of allergic diseases in children. Research has most commonly focused on the parents and siblings of newborns. Today, because of a longer-living population, we have the opportunity to study the prevalence of allergies in cross-generational families. This highlights the need for a study investigating the prevalence of allergy across wider family relatives: grandparents and relatives of other degrees of kinship: uncles and aunts, siblings and cousins of newborns.
